USLAW Network
“We want it different than the typical lawyer site. We don’t like photos of people standing around in suits. No gavels. No courthouses. And I promised myself long ago that I would never ever use a photo of people shaking hands.”
were the first words out of the client’s mouth in the initial kickoff meeting for their website re-design.
USLAW is an international organization composed of approximately 100 independent, full-service practice firms, including more than 6,000 attorneys across the U.S., Canada, Latin America, and Asia. Through their website they offer a multitude of resources for members including forums, seminars, links to educational resources, continued education but most importantly a network of reliable professionals at the top of their field.
Connections. At its core, USLAW is about connections, the thread that runs through everything that they provide to their members.
The challenge of portraying that visually with none of the typical imagery while still keeping the site clean and professional went many places, but the idea of a literal thread running through the entire site connecting everything kept re-emerging. Once the thought of using illustrations instead of photography was introduced, everything clicked.
The initial thought was to present two versions to the client. One with illustrations as well as an insurance concept that would be basically the same but with non-traditional photography in place of the illustrations. However, confidence was so high in the initial concept and execution that it was decided to go all-in and present the entire site fully designed.
And the gamble paid off. Along with the simplified UI and visuals the concept was overwhelmingly loved by the entire board and approved on the spot with virtually no revisions.
